West Dallas Environmental History

Manufacturing and fabrication plants created waste that could be salvaged. Salvaging had grown along with in- dustry in Dallas since the turn-of-the-century and salvage yards moved into West Dallas with the metal and boiler plants. The logical extension of the salvage yard, how- ever, was the dump and several were operated in the area, both legally and illegally since 1900.
