Nichols receives award from Texas Association of Counties

Lufkin — The Texas Association of Counties (TAC) today presented an award to Sen. Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) for his work during the 82nd Legislative Session.

"As a state senator I believe it is essential to work with city and county governments in order to promote and protect local control," said Nichols. "Every county has unique characteristics and needs. It is important that state government not assume one-size-fits-all for county governments and does not create an unfunded mandate at the local level."

TAC decided to honor Nichols because of his service as vice chair of Intergovernmental Relations and efforts to help counties fight unfunded mandates and preserve decision-making authority at the county level.

"TAC greatly appreciates the work Sen. Nichols and his staff put into reviewing legislation for county impact," said TAC Legislative Director Paul Sugg. "We also recognize the senator's effort to pass legislation removing the mandate for counties to participate in the Collection Improvement Program."

TAC is a statewide non-profit organization that represents counties at the Texas Capitol, conducts required continuing education for officials and provides other needed services for county government.
