Nichols welcomes Nacogdoches residents and SFA representatives to the Capitol

Austin — Today, state Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) welcomed representatives from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) and residents of Nacogdoches to the Texas Capitol for Nacogdoches-SFA Legislative Days, which are today and tomorrow.

"I’m proud to represent Nacogdoches and SFA, so it's a real thrill to have them here in Austin," said Nichols.

The group of about 100 consists of members of the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Nacogdoches, SFA students, administrators and alumni.

"This is a great turnout," said Nichols. "It really makes an impression when so many people from the community come to Austin to represent Nacogdoches."

Participants will watch the House and Senate proceedings, hear from speakers, meet with elected officials, and attend a special reception at the Downtown Omni. The SFA Alumni Association will host a breakfast tomorrow for SFA alumni, students and faculty.

At the reception tonight, Nichols will present a special proclamation in honor of SFA's 85th Anniversary.

"SFA is an outstanding institution with a strong heritage," said Nichols. "It's an honor to official recognize the university's contribution to the state of Texas."

Aside from visiting with Nichols and Rep. Wayne Christian (R-Center), the group will hear from special speakers from the Texas Depart of Agriculture and the Texas Association of Business.

Two resolutions filed by Nichols official recognize Nacogdoches and SFA days at the Capitol.
