Austin, TX — Yesterday, Senator Kelly Hancock, chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs, announced his resignation from the Texas Senate, concluding nearly twenty years of dedicated legislative service. Senator Hancock has decided to accept a position in the Office of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Governor Greg Abbott is expected to appoint Senator Hancock as Acting Comptroller following current Comptroller Glenn Hegar's upcoming transition to serve as Chancellor of the Texas A&M University System.
In light of this announcement, Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“I congratulate Senator Hancock on his long and successful service in the Texas Legislature. During his time in the Texas Senate, he has chaired several important committees, including Administration, Business & Commerce, and most recently, Veteran Affairs. I’ve had the privilege of working with him on various committees, including Finance, Transportation, and Redistricting, among others.
Senator Hancock is a good family man and a tireless worker who stands firmly by his principles. He cares about the success of our state, our businesses, and our communities. His commitment to public service has made a lasting impact, and he will be missed in the Texas Senate.
As he begins his new journey, I am confident that he will excel in his role as the next Comptroller of Public Accounts. I look forward to working with him in his new position and I wish him and his wife, Robin, much success in all their future endeavors.”
