AUSTIN — State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, has been honored by the Texas Press Association for her years of commitment to open government and accountability.
For the third time, Senator Nelson was named a Champion of Transparency by the newspaper association for her years of work protecting citizens’ access to open records, open meetings and public notices.
“For almost two decades, Senator Nelson has been a stalwart defender of transparency in bills that come before the Texas Legislature,” said Mike Hodges, executive director of TPA. “Those who fight to protect the public’s right to know will greatly miss her when she retires from the Senate before the 2023 session.”
“Sunshine is a vital ingredient for good government,” Senator Nelson said. “Texans deserve transparency and accountability, and I am proud to be recognized by the Texas Press Association with its Champion of Transparency Award.”
The Texas Press Association, which represents some 400 newspapers across Texas, lobbies for freedom of speech, open records, open meetings and public notices. The association presents Champion of Transparency awards to state officials who distinguish themselves as advocates for open government.
