Texas Senate Tightens State Spending Limit

AUSTIN — Last week, legislation recalculating the state's spending limit passed in the Senate and is now onto the House. Filed as Senate Bill 9, this bill limits state spending by tying it to the rate of population growth plus inflation. Senator Kelly Hancock (R-North Richland Hills) is the primary author and Senator Brandon Creighton (R-Conroe) is a co-author of this private property rights legislation.

"Reigning in our state's spending has always been one of my top priorities," said Senator Creighton. "Texas taxpayers expect us to tighten our belts and be good stewards of their hard earned money."

"As an author of similar legislation in the past, I'm excited to see this bill make its way through the Senate and believe it's the best policy to curb unnecessary spending in our state," continued Senator Creighton. "Senator Hancock and I will continue to work shoulder-to-shoulder working with our colleagues in the House to move it through the legislative process."

Senate Bill 9 is supported by Americans for Prosperity, Texas Public Policy Foundation, and Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.

SENATOR BRANDON CREIGHTON represents District 4, which encompasses Chambers, Jefferson and parts of Montgomery, Harris, and Galveston Counties. He currently serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs, the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice, the Senate Committee on State Affairs, and as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce.
