Creighton Calls for Abbott to Oppose Conversion of Al Price Facility

AUSTIN — In light of the recent push from the Office of Violent Sex Offender Management to convert the Al Price State Juvenile Facility into a halfway house for civil commitment violent sexual offenders, Senator Creighton penned a letter to Governor Greg Abbott asking him to join in the opposition of this effort.

"My capitol office has received an outpour from constituents in Senate District 4 and every member of the Jefferson County Commissioner's Court publicly opposing the transfer of sexual offenders to Beaumont," said Senator Creighton. "I stand firmly with my district against the conversion of the Al Price facility into a halfway house for some of the worst sexual offenders in our state and request Governor Abbott stand with us."

Senator Creighton's letter is accessible here.

"This is not a classic 'not in my backyard' scenario," continued Senator Creighton. "Job recruitment in Southeast Texas is key in keeping our state the 11th largest economy in the world. Maintaining a healthy recruitment effort cannot be achieved if the Al Price facility is converted."

SENATOR BRANDON CREIGHTON represents District 4, which encompasses Chambers, Jefferson and parts of Montgomery, Harris, and Galveston Counties. He currently serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs, the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice, the Senate Committee on State Affairs, and as the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce.
