Second Annual City-Wide Health Fair to Offer Free Medical Services

CORPUS CHRISTI — A coalition of health care providers and community organizations announced that the 2nd Annual City Wide Health Fair will be held on Saturday, April 24, at 4101 Old Brownsville Road at Del Mar West College. The fair will offer free health services, screenings, and testing as well as free healthy snacks and prizes.

Driscoll Children's Hospital, Nueces County Community Action Agency-Head Start and local health departments are anchoring this year's fair. Attendees can receive free H1N1 immunizations, free immunizations for children, diabetes check-ups, and blood pressure exams, just to name a few of the services that will be offered free of charge.

Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa extended his enthusiastic support for this health fair.

"I encourage everyone who needs access to basic health services to attend this fair. Last year's fair was a huge success and the effort is being repeated to reach out to those in the community who need medical care. Services and screenings will be offered at no cost to the public. This is a wonderful opportunity to receive free medical testing - you cannot beat a no-cost offer like this to determine what your risk factors are," Senator Hinojosa said.

Other partners of this year's fair include Del Mar College, the NAACP, CVS Pharmacy, LULAC, Capital One Bank, and many other partners. This collaborative effort is a hallmark of community resources joining together to provide a social good for residents of Nueces County.

Given the continuously rising costs of medical care, Senator Hinojosa urged persons in need of health screenings to attend the fair.

"This is your chance to get checked out for serious health risks. Early detection of threats to your physical well being is essential for long-term success in managing chronic conditions. The best of part of the fair is that the services are free. No cost. I cannot stress that enough," Senator Hinojosa stated.
