In 1908 Dallas had a flood. The Trinity River crested its banks at 52.6 feet, inundated the Central Business Dis- trict, severed all transportation links to Oak Cliff and Fort Worth, and deluged hundreds of acres of land west of downtown. Most of what later became known as West Dallas was under water. [Dallas Magazine, June 1926]
